Researchers at the Harvard Medical School in the US and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden tracked 21,442 men and women in their 60’s over a five year period.
In a report on their findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, scientists said that vitamins and minerals consumed as part of a healthy diet may well protect against cancer and cardiovascular disease and that a daily multivitamin did appear to lower the chances of lung cancer by almost 40 per cent compared with taking a placebo.
