Women are more likely to become apple shaped with extra fat around their middle after the menopause because they begin to burn fewer calories. As a result, around a third of women aged 45 to 54 are now obese in the UK.
Menopause specialist Dr. Ekta Kapoor of the Women’s Health Research Centre says : “It is imperative that women enter menopause with this knowledge to prevent and manage weight gain with active efforts at healthier eating and regular physical activity”.
